This programme was delivered for HR taskforce members of UN agencies and UN staff in Nepal, professionals who work daily in diverse, multicultural environments. The session explored what it means to be culturally competent, including awareness of one’s own assumptions, respect for different perspectives and the ability to communicate and collaborate across cultural boundaries in a workplace that brings together people from many backgrounds.
Through discussion, case studies and reflection, participants examined how cultural differences influence communication, expectations and relationships, and how HR professionals can foster inclusion and understanding within their organizations. They developed practical strategies for handling cross-cultural situations with sensitivity and fairness. The programme left participants with deeper cultural awareness and practical skills to help build more inclusive, respectful and effective workplaces across the UN system.
